I did this picture on MS Paint with a little help from a pic I found on http://neondragonart.com/dp/images/hands_orb_steps.png, which is where the hand came from. The hand is God's hand as He takes care of things, and the woman watering the tree is an example of how He wants us to take care of what He made.
My research paper is on dominion as discussed in the Bible in regard to the environment. When I say dominion in that sense, I bet you think of Genesis 1:28, where God blesses Adam and Eve and gives them dominion over the rest of the earth. My question is what does that mean? Dominion sounds like dominate, and what is it to dominate? To rule over, right? In Psalm 8:6, we hear the word dominion again, but with a completely different tone. King David is saying that we should be partners in ruling the earth with God who made it. Who am I deny the request of He who made everything from the burning sun to the delicate butterfly wing? The thought is hard to fathom.
Here is the problem. People tend to think of being given dominion as we can do what we want with nature. In the name of dominion we make landfills of garbage. We choose to wear fur coats. We drill for oil, not worrying about the effects it will have around the oil field. It that way to rule a kingdom that's been given to us?
If we want to be good rulers of God's creation, we should be picking up litter, recycling, and finding alternative fuels that don't pollute. If we have to wear fur, we'd get faux fur made synthetically so we don't decimate animal populations.
Now, do you want to be a good ruler or bad ruler? I for one, want to be a good ruler and take care of what I have been given.
For some fun, here's a song I wrote to the tune of He's Got the Whole World In His Hands
CHORUS;
He made the whole world
With His hands.
He made the whole world
With His hands.
He made the whole world
With His hands.
He made the whole world
With His hands.
VERSES
1. Reduce recycle and reuse your garbage.
2. Compost uneaten food to help things grow.
3. Don't wear the real fur coats, choose fake fur.
4. God gave us dominion; help Him out.
5. If you love the planet care for it.
Hope you enjoyed this page and my site, and I will put my actual paper up here when I finish it.
